​Tom has been a newspaper reporter and columnist, a juggler, a lawn mower assembler, a biology research assistant, and now he's an author and illustrator. He began writing novels when he was in 8th grade. He views writing as putting puzzles together; moving around all the ideas of a story until they fit together. He gets most of his inspiration from Star Wars, and his own personal disasters! He is married to Cece Bell, author of the El Deafo graphic novel, and they wrote the Inspector Flytrap series together.
